Mother’s Day Craft and Gift Ideas
While the title says Mother’s Day, I do want to touch on the fact that not every child has a mother in their life. All of these crafts and gift ideas can be adjusted for grandmothers, aunts, teachers, foster parents, stepparents, fathers, and any other caretaking relationship the child may have. What’s most important is that the child feels loved and cared for. These ideas are for any child to do for any caretaking adult for whom they want to show appreciation. If you are that person in a child’s life, thank you for all you do! You really are making a difference!
I wrote a Mother’s Day poem back during 2020 when we were dealing with quarantine-parenting. You can find it here on the website along with a printable version. I hope it resonates with you and those you love!
Infant
Obviously, these activities will need some adult help! Babies grow so quickly. So any type of hand or foot print craft is a wonderful gift! Pro tip: Footprints are way easier than handprints with babies. Babies reflexively make a fist when anything touches their hand. And, they are very quick to stick their hands in their mouths! It can be done. Just consider yourself warned!
- A keepsake ornament like the one pictured above always makes a meaningful gift for any occasion.
- For lower-cost hand and foot prints, you can use an ink pad or paint on paper to preserve those bitty fingers and toes. Washable paint comes off well with baby wipes!
- A sweet poem about the blessing babies are – combine with hand or footprints as above, or with a picture as below.
- A photo of baby or baby’s hands or feet – combine with a sweet poem as above.
- Something special for mom like a morning to sleep in, a break from night duty, an appointment for hair or nails, etc.
- Flowers and candy “from baby”
Toddler
- Hand or foot prints
- A sweet poem about toddlerhood (like this free one from Messy Little Monster)
