Swagbucks review

What is Swagbucks?

Today I am excited to talk to you about one of my favorite extra-income-earning programs: Swagbucks! In this Swagbucks review, the opinions expressed are entirely my own and are not sponsored by the Swagbucks corporation.

When our family was in grad school, money was tight. Who am I kidding, I can’t remember a time when money hasn’t been tight! #adulting, am I right? I was a stay-at-home mom of three littles (again, not much has changed besides adding two more blessings and a bunch of animals to the mix). I was always on the lookout for ways to save money and, even better, earn money.

When I first heard of Swagbucks, I was a bit skeptical. It is marketed as a search engine through which you earn points. Points add up and can be exchanged for gift cards from many, many stores or even cash through PayPal. I was hesitant to give up Google. Could anything really be as good?

Well, I decided to compare. I ran identical searches through both Google and the Swagbucks search engine. Guess what? They both pulled the exact same top results. After several such searches, I was convinced.

Pros

  • Swagbucks also offers a cash back program in the form of points for shopping online at their partner retailers. They partner with Amazon, WalMart, and other mainstream retailers. If you are going to be shopping anyway, why not go through Swagbucks and earn a little bit back?
  • If you enjoy taking surveys, Swagbucks also has many surveys you can for which you can qualify and answer. In my opinion, this is the fastest way to earn larger numbers of points, but you do have to qualify for the surveys. Qualification can often be hit or miss.
  • Another easy way to add points is by watching videos. You can let the playlists play in the background (even on mute! shhh!) and earn points as you watch. You can’t “get rich” this way, but earning passive points is always a win!
  • There are also many, many offers you can do to turn earn points. Because my goal is to earn money, I tend to stay away from anything requiring me to spend anything, unless of course I am online shopping anyway.
  • There is a Swagbutton you can install in your browser to make searching (and everything else) a breeze! This link will take you directly to instructions on how to install the Swagbutton. You can shop, watch videos, be alerted to bonus codes, and more with the button.
  • Swagbucks has also has an app so you can do everything on your phone without being tied to a desktop. I know I use my phone way more than my computer throughout the day. You can use the app to earn points while you are out and about. It only takes a minute here and there to rack up the points.

Cons

Since this is a Swagbucks review, I do need to let you know some of the cons of the program.

  • I have found that their site changes often. It is sometimes hard to navigate.
  • They have made it a bit harder to earn large amounts of points without spending money. It is still possible, however. I never do the spending offers aside from my regular online shopping.
  • The surveys are often difficult to qualify for, which is disappointing when you have put so much time into the qualification questions.
  • The Swagbutton does not get along well with Safari. The button and the app get along best with Chrome, FireFox, and Microsoft Edge. It has not caused a problem for me as I have multiple browsers installed on my computer and can easily switch between them.
  • Their customer service leaves a bit to be desired. While I have not had to deal with them much through the years, they are often slow to respond and do not always resolve issues to my satisfaction. I do still find the potential rewards to be worth the slight hassle, though. Like I said, I’ve only had to contact customer service twice in over 10 years being a member.

Despite these few drawbacks, I have earned quite a bit of income in the form of gift cards through Swagbucks. I like to redeem points for Amazon cards and use them toward Christmas and birthday presents and household items. You won’t get rich through Swagbucks, but every little bit helps! It is possible to earn enough for significant gift cards every month. Swagbucks has definitely been a blessing for our family.
