This kid friendly ground beef recipe is a big hit in my family. It is one that I came up with on my own when oldest kiddos were just toddlers. We rarely have any leftovers!

Some Tips
This is one of my go-to kid friendly beef recipes. It is quickly thrown together and is very yummy. Made up of simple and normal household ingredients, it is perfect for when you run out of ideas for dinner or need a quick-fix on a busy night.
It can be a one-dish meal or goes great as an entrée with sides. Palette-pleaser for hubby (meat, meat, meat!), for toddlers and kids (cheese, biscuits), and for mommy (veggies)!
First, we start with some pantry-staple ingredients. Notice how my seasoning canisters are quite large? Yeah….we go through a lot of herbs and spices around here. You can order spices in bulk through Amazon Pantry.
After you prepare your onion and pepper by slicing and dicing, throw them all in the frying pan with just enough olive oil so they won’t stick. Give them a few minutes’ saute before you add in the the meat.
Please excuse the state of my frying pan. I am rough on those things! Hubby gifted me a new one for Christmas. They can be pricey. But I more than get my money’s worth out of them! If you’ve never used an electric skillet, you are missing out! Check them out on Amazon here.
Add in the ground beef and brown. After the meat has browned, it’s time for the seasonings! It’s starting to look yummy!
Once the mixture has simmered and gotten the flavors soaked in really well, move all to a 9×13 inch casserole dish and stir in about 2-4 oz of the cheese.
I use my Pyrex casserole dish almost every day. I love it so much! It cooks everything perfectly and is easy to clean. Click the image above to view it on Amazon.
Top it with the canned biscuits and the rest of the cheese. I like to tear the biscuits in half (separate top from bottom) so they cook faster and go further. Also, it ensures they’re not too thick as a top crust. Pop it in the oven and enjoy!
Kid Friendly Ground Beef Recipe: Cheeseburger Casserole
Ingredients:
1-1.5 lbs ground beef
2 tbsp olive oil
½ cup diced green pepper
½ cup diced onion
1 tbsp minced garlic
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp basil
8 oz. of shredded cheese (cheddar, colby jack, or a fiesta blend all work well)
1 can (8 count) refrigerated biscuits
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375*.
- Sauté onions, peppers, and garlic in olive oil until mostly done. Add in ground beef, brown, and drain.
- Add in Worcestershire, salt, black pepper, and basil sprinkled over the meat. If you are adding any extra ingredients, now would be the time to put those in. Let cook long enough for seasonings to take effect, stirring well.
- Pour into 13×9 inch pan. Sprinkle 1/4 to 1/2 (but not all) of the cheese across the top. Or even better, stir the cheese in.
- Pull biscuits apart in the middle (sandwich-wise) and place on top of the cheese. For me, it took all but half of one biscuit. Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top of the biscuits.
- Bake for 15-20 min or until cheese is melted and biscuits are golden brown. Enjoy!
Alternate Ingredients:
- Corn and beans added to meat mixture.
- Ground turkey or pinto beans instead of ground beef.
- Garlic salt added to mixture (my personal fave).
This recipe is super versatile and forgiving!
*Due to wheat sensitivity in my family now, I use gluten free flour to make a crust rather than canned biscuits.*
