It’s raining. It’s too hot outside. It’s too cold outside. The baby kept you up all night. Summer is winding to a close and all the go-to toys and games have lost their excitement. It’s the weekend and there’s nothing to do. Whatever the reason, we all have moments when the kids are bored, and we have already scraped the sides of the barrel of our creativity.
I was experiencing one such morning this week. I had been up a good portion of the night with the baby, and all I wanted that day was a nap. Unfortunately, I have kids who think they need to eat and play and be supervised. Sigh.
After some requests of some higher energy activities, my brain merged some of their ideas with some of my own, and these LEGO activities were born. It turned out to be an absolute hit with everyone. I engaged with my kids, they used their brains and imagination for hours, and no one was bickering and fighting. AND, my tired self got to do it all from the couch. Yes!
With a little adaptation, you can use these LEGO activities with any age group. I just gave simple ideas to my three year old; short, easy-to-read clues for my six year old; and longer, more difficult riddles for my older ones.
